Donell Young

Editor's note: Donell Young was promoted in July, 2015 to Director of Academic Retention Services.

What is your position?

Assistant Director of Student Life

What are your current job responsibilities?

As an Assistant Director in the Department of Student Life my job responsibilities consist of supervising The Office of Student Conduct, The Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center and The Multicultural Center. I assist the coordinator of The Office of Student Conduct in adjudicating complicated student conduct cases. I also provide guidance to the coordinators of The  Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center and The Multicultural Center to ensure the students needs are met by providing cultural, educational and social events in the perspective centers.

How did you begin your association with MU?

After receiving my undergraduate and graduate degrees from Lincoln University, I was hired there as the Coordinator of Student Conduct. During my work at Lincoln, I met my current supervisor and Director of Student Life, Mark Lucas, through a coalition called Partners for Prevention. In 2004, I applied for and eventually was hired as the Coordinator of Student Conduct at MU.

What do you enjoy about working at MU?

The most enjoyable aspect of my job is working with students.  My job can be very challenging at times. However, when I attend an event  and see the joy on the students faces because they realize their hard work has paid off, it reminds me why I am so passionate about the work that I do.
