Supervisors are responsible for training, assisting, motivating, directing and correcting behavior of staff and ensuring certain standards of personal conduct and work performance are maintained. Discipline is a means to correct employee behavior and performance.

Supervisors are responsible for informing their subordinates of management's expectations. Where problems with employee behavior or performance arise, a supervisor should seek to correct the problem with the least amount of disruption to the work environment.
